Bulletin for September 2024

Last Updated: 25 Sep 2024

Online applications

The EMA/WGLG online application service for academic year 2024/25 is now available.

The online service is available in English and Welsh for students to apply here.

Applying online is easy and helps us process forms quickly, so please encourage your students to apply online where possible.

To help promote the online service, we’ve created posters you can display in areas where students will see them. These are available for you to download and print from the LC Services website

New students must apply within 13 weeks of their course starting to be eligible to receive full backdated payments. If applying online, your students’ 'application received' date will be recorded as the first time they either save or submit their application.

For help with their online application, students can contact us on our helpline number 0300 200 4050. This will be open from Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm.

If your students would prefer a paper application form, they can still ask for one. They can also download a form and guidance from the Student Finance Wales (SFW) website, even if they’ve started an application online.

Non-UK nationals

There have been some changes with the way we share data with the Home Office.

This means that from September, non-UK national students and their sponsors may not need to send in physical evidence to support their application.

If any of your students are non UK nationals, please encourage them to apply online or download a new application form and guidance from Student Finance Wales. This will ensure they pick up the new changes and avoid any delays with their application.

Service standard reminders

Key reminders:
  • Learning agreements should be signed by all new and returning students within 10 working days of an approved application.
  • Attendances should be confirmed every week before 5pm on a Wednesday for the previous week’s attendance.

EMA and WGLG support desk

Our support desk team is available to answer any day to day operational questions you have. This includes queries about individual learners, application processing, payments and the Learning Centre Portal.

As we approach our peak processing period, it is important you use all available resources. You should only escalate these types of queries to the Account Management team in exceptional circumstances.

You can reach our support desk on 0300 200 4050 (option 5 for WGLG, option 6 for EMA) or by emailing emainfo@slc.co.uk
