EMA Wales and WGLG FE bulletin – August 2022

Last Updated: 23 Aug 2022

Into the new academic year

Both new and returning students need a new EMA or WGLG FE Learning Agreement for each academic year. The EMA and WGLG FE scheme start date for academic year 2022/23 will be 12 September.

If an application is already approved, the Learning Agreement must be signed within 10 working days of this date.

If an application is still going through the administration and approval process, the Learning Agreement must be signed within 10 days of the application being approved.

You may have students who have returned to study earlier and have a signed Learning Agreement in place. If so, you can confirm their attendance before 12 September.

For academic year 2022/23, you may continue emailing Learning Agreements to students if meeting in person is difficult. You should keep all email confirmations for audit purposes. There is more information about emailing the Learning Agreement in the guidance notes.

Please also remember to enter your EMA holidays for academic year 2022/23, if you have not already done so. There is more information about how to enter your holidays in the guidance notes.

Changes to EMA and WGLG FE residency policy: Ukraine Schemes

The residency policy for EMA and WGLG FE has recently changed. From 24 July 2022, students who have been granted leave to enter or remain under a Ukraine Scheme may be eligible for EMA and WGLG FE support.

We've published updates to the EMA Application Form and the WGLG FE Application Form. They include eligibility information for students in this category. If you have any students who applied before 24 July, please help them fill in the new section of the form. You should also give it to any students using the paper application pack.

Students who have not applied yet can download the full updated application packs from Student Finance Wales.
